What Exactly Did Jimmy Kimmel Say Concerning Charlie Kirk’s Killing?

While declaring that it would halt Jimmy Kimmel’s programme, broadcasting group Nexstar Communications Group called the host’s statements about Charlie Kirk’s death as “inappropriate and hurtful” amid a critical period in American political discourse.

Supporters of Donald Trump praised the action, with the deputy White House chief calling it an case of “consequence culture”.

But what exactly did Jimmy Kimmel state that upset the president’s base?

In his start-of-the-week commentary, Kimmel suggested that Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, might have been a conservative sympathizer.

“The Maga Gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel remarked.

That particular comment seems to have upset Republican loyalists and government figures the most.

In an interview on Wednesday, the Trump-appointed head of the US media regulator suggested it appeared a “coordinated attempt to mislead the American public.”

Brendan Carr further to describe Kimmel’s remarks as an attempt to “fuel a storyline that the perpetrator was in some way driven by Maga or Republican ideals.”

Carr additionally cautioned that if steps were not implemented against Kimmel, there would be “more tasks for the FCC ahead.”

“It’s long past the time that stations say, ‘We’re not gonna run Kimmel anymore because of the possibility of sanctions or having our broadcast rights pulled from the FCC,’” Carr stated.

Senator Ed Markey labeled the situation as “censorship in action”.

“The FCC chair warns ABC and Disney over Kimmel’s comments. Hours later, he’s off air. It’s dangerous and a breach of rights. The warning to every media outlet is clear: Toe the MAGA line or the Federal Censorship Commission will penalize you,” Markey stated.

Jimmy Kimmel further mentioned the response to Kirk’s death on his Tuesday programme, remarking that “numerous Trump supporters are trying hard to benefit from the death of Charlie Kirk”.

Referencing VP JD Vance’s comment while hosting Kirk’s podcast, Kimmel suggested that “the administration and its supporters are trying hard to stoke tensions, so they can presumably attack people on the liberal wing.”

Sources indicate that Kimmel was planning to address the backlash on that evening’s show and explain how his remarks had been misrepresented. He was not intending to apologize for them.
