A 14-year-old youth was found dead just days following being falsely blamed of taking the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a burglary, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Finding

The young boy's mother and father found his body in his room at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The inquest heard how his mother got a communication on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her child. The communication stated: "Inform him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a testimony presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, claiming her infant's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An official inquiry from authorities later determined the alleged break-in victim had "provided false information" and "it now appears that the items was not stolen in the beginning".

Media reports about the alleged stolen remains generated online comments, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she said.

Mental Health Impact

She explained that Kai had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views really were important to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest heard, but had failed to reached out to the family by the time of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".

When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son told her he had gone into the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Online Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The proceedings heard that a young adult urged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The hearing received testimony from educational personnel at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "overheard some students talking that Kai had been detained and that was the first I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang the family's family telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The court heard his parents said they never receive that communication.

Formal Conclusion

Senior coroner told the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Delivering a descriptive finding, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently embellished and amplified through the platform of online networks.

"During 11 November, he was interviewed by the authorities and following his interview he was freed while inquiries proceeded."

The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the actions or failures of any organization caused or added to his death and although it was the result of a personal act it is impossible to determine his purpose."
